A Grecian lady after Godward, oil on panel - 16x10

I have had the distinct pleasure of studying portraiture with the master painter Frank Covino. Mr. Covino teaches the lessons and techniques of the Renaissance masters. I use his teachings as the basis for all of my painting mediums. Building the image with thin layer after layer, called glazing. This is a time consuming and meditative technique, but there is no other way to build the depth of vision. This same approach also works for color pencil, as well as acrylic.

I love to do the non-formal portrait, especially if the person is interacting with an animal. There is a story there. The viewer can feel the emotion, and gets pulled into the piece.
